HELP GRReef at Risk- Again
Guy sand gals

I just spoke to Anthony Gomes – he is out of range and has been for a few days.

We URGENTLY need your help. This is all over by Monday 9th.

They are trying to pas a law in Canberra - that will give the GBRMPA even more powers - which will surely write of much more fishing. Please pass this on to as many mates as you ca.

The long story cut short: We need you to write (email ) a submission by Monday 5pm at the latest

The GBReef Amendment Bill has the following effects

1. it changes the use of our Park from “wise use” To the overriding rule of conservation first.

2 the 2006 review of the authority gave them a smack for the last review - saying they need to use ‘transparent science” and take into account social and economic costs. BUT this Bill ignores this and uses the “precautionary principle” which is defined as “we don’t have to use any science”

3 even “looking “ for a fish is illegal - so no turning on sounders when navigating across the reef
4 Guilty until proven innocent in a few areas

Guys - please get ready - I will try to put up a submission style and suggestions. We need as many as possible. It was a dirty trick to open submissions Monday and close next Monday! Lets not let them win!

Below is more information for now.

RE: HELP GRReef at Risk- Again
SENATOR BARNABY JOYCE

LNP Senator for Queensland

2 September 2008

A Call for the QLD Fishing Industry

Sen Joyce said today, "After extensive negotiations in the Senate a committee has been organised. It is now up to fishing groups and those Queenslanders who enjoy the occupation of fishing to get organised to clearly spell out their concerns about the impending Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Bill. Senator Stephens from New South Wales gave a speech as expected which, in summary, basically says "here it comes and we're not going to change a thing.

“Queensland Labor Senators have been remarkably silent on your behalf. What else would you expect from Labor party Senators who just do what they're told by a centralists lower house executive?

“But the responsibility really does now lie with the people of Queensland, to whom this bill specifically refers in the first instance, to mount the case as to why the recreational right of fishing and the commercial right of fishing can be no further impinged upon as this bill would do.

“The Labor party has extolled the virtues of a 'Precautionary Principle' which is the out clause when they can't prove an environmental or economic reason as to why they should close further sections of the reef. They have also entered into the realm of creating a crime not so much out of an action but out of consideration of an action. In that, you only have to look like you might be going fishing in the wrong area to have committed a crime.

“As for the Labor lower house members who now occupy the majority of Great Barrier Reef seats, what have they said on your behalf? Nothing.

RE: HELP GRReef at Risk- Again
Hi Gary!

I was trying to get to the link for the required layout on a submission but it keeps displaying an error or page moved message.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to send in a submission but we need to make sure it is in the format that the bureaucrats like so that none are rejected.

Can you somehow post a brief on what it should look like?????

Nothing to fancy just the basics so that anyone can use it.

RE: HELP GRReef at Risk- Again
Hi Adam
I have just sent off one submission , only it took me three hours as I wiped the first out on a time out before I had saved it , did another and forgot to include personal details [required] and so did a third, all a little different, just finished 10mins ago.Gary sent me a breakdown of what was required , about 6 pages to go through. it takes awhile but this is a most serious threat to reef fishing you could imagine .Even though it wont personally affect me that much reef wise everybody must do something as it is the worst attack on fishing I have seen these people must literally hate fishing and fishermen. everybody have a go A.S.A.P.
