Welcome to the Fish and Boat Forum
With the growing number of registered users on this forum, I figured it would be a good idea if we all put up a post (off this thread) so that we could introduce ourselves and share some of our experiences. I will kick it off and lets see where it goes...........

RE: Welcome to the Fish and Boat Forum
Hi All,
My name is Anthony Gomes (Ant) and I have the pleasure of editing and layout of Fish and Boat. I have been fishing since I was a little kid. Born in Madang in Papua New Guinea, I had a father who loved fishing and can remember heading out with him on his catamaran towing spoons with wire and getting busted up by all sorts of pelagics. That cat spent some of its time being towed sideways which was interesting.... Since then, I have always had a passion for fishing and the great outdoors. When I graduated from Uni as a teacher I lived and worked in remote areas for about ten years. Spending time in these areas was great for the fishing as most places I fished were well away from the hustle and bustle of big crowds. I gave teaching away in 2008 so that I could spend more time in the fishing industry. Apart from Fish and Boat, I have also been the editor for the Sunfish NQ magazine before it was incorporated into Go Fishing which I also edited for just over a year. I also have my own publication (Cape Yorker magazine) which keeps me very busy and gives me an excuse to head into Cape York quite regularly. I also have a few fishing products that I distribute and market. When it comes to fishing, I love it all: from flyfishing, lures, bait, etc. The only area that I have not spent too much time in is the game fishing. Who knows what the future holds there. I am married with one child (5 years old). My wife doesn't like fishing but our daugher loves it. There is nothing better than seeing her catching fish and I get a real buzz from taking her fishing. Thats about it for now........ Anthony Gomes "Fishing is my business and business is good" |

RE: Welcome to the Fish and Boat Forum
Guess I'm next!
Hey gang my name is......well it's on my post so I'll skip that! When I'm not falling from pontoons or boats I write and create puzzles for the Junior Angler section in NQ Fish & Boat as well as contribute with the odd story or two. Born in Ipswich (please don't hold it against me!), I moved up to Forrest Beach (near Ingham) a few years after completing my Associate Diploma in Applied Science at UQ Gatton and have been here for almost 13 years. My day job (the thing I do when not fishing ) is as an Extrension officer/Farm Manager in the Herbert for BSES Limited, the peak Australian sugarcane research organisation. I've been fishing since before I could walk and have given just about everything a go (except fly fishing!). My favourite prey include mackerel, fingermark, flathead and most hard fighting fast moving pelagics! My biggest thrill comes from taking my two young daughters and wife fishing (when she doesn't get sea sick!) on our 16ft seajay, especially in the waters around the Palm Island group. I look forward to catching up with some of you on the water one day so if you are visiting the Hinchinbrook area give me a yell!

RE: Welcome to the Fish and Boat Forum
hey all, chris here, am 27, am a brickie monday through friday, think im a fisherman on days off, have loved fishing since i was a wee little boy, i grew up in a small town half hour from toowoomba, and as water was at a premium, small creeks full of spangled perch were my target for years,
have lived here in mackay for 4 years now and although i only just scrape in to north queensland, am happy to live here in paradise, i realised i was addicted to fishing when one day in my science class at school i bet a mate that i could catch a gold fish out of the 4 foot fish tank at the back of the room, so i started a burley trail of fish food, pulled a thread of cotton out of my pencilcase, bent up a staple for a hook, a flake of fish food, and the rest they say, is history, now a days i fish for bream and flathead, live bait for barra, chase jacks on poppers, trout on handlines, and get after pelagics on fly, i own a 435 plate tinny with a 60 4 stroke yamaha, have a 110 miles of fuel on board which gets me to most places i need to go, have a great missus, who hates all things fish, apart from eating it, however lets me go without notice and on work days, so shouldn't complain, so pretty muchlike catching anything with fins, and love being out at sea after trout, or walking the river for murray cod, a rod in my hand is a natural thing, cheers all, and look forward to seeing more posts here, thanks guys, chris oh and adam, those puzzles mate, can yo make them a bit easer, have been havin trouble with them, lol, Chris |

RE: Welcome to the Fish and Boat Forum
Hey guys, most of you have been talking to me here for ages but I'm 16 very soon and live an hour inland from Townsville. I love fishing, and have great memories of fishing with my granddad (dad hates fishing >_>) in Mackay from as young as perhaps three. I have fished a lot in Mackay around Victor Island and those areas as well beaches, creeks etc. I also get to fish the banks of Townsville a bit. Usually a fish the local rivers targetting sooties, sleepy cod, yabbies and the barra I am yet to catch. My favourite fish would have to be blueys, barra, mackeral and pelagics.
My first fish on a lure was a tiny sootie that was smaller than the lure, lol. Right now, basically, all I want in the fishing world is a boat. I only ever get to use one when I'm at my granddad's beach house, and that is maybe twice a year. And a bit of trivia for you: I have been to Mackay over the past three years for a total of probably around ten to twelve weeks and have had 30 knot winds every time, and therefore have not fished even 200 m out from the boat ramp. I await the day the ocean calms for me again. Thanks guys, long live fishing! Petition against Coral Sea closure-> sign up on facebook now! 13 members & counting ![]()
