Hey guys
Would really love to get into fly fishing, saving up for my first combo at the moment. Does any one have any good sites to help me learn the basics and maybe a casting website? Cheers Ryan

RE: Any help appreciated?
harro,
The best advice I can give you in regards to casting is to find someone who can actually show you how to cast and fish the fly. All the websites, books and DVD's in the world won't beat practical experience. If you Google 'Peter Morse' then you will be on the right track. Peter has a wealth of knowledge and has also been involved in developing a beginner series of flyrods that are distributed through JM Gillies. Remember to 'try before you buy' wherever possible. Will have to see what happens, I have a long way to keep saving at the moment When you go looking for some one to teach you, go to a fly fishing club if you can and get an acredited coach. I first learned to cast from a mate and it caused me more problems in the long run. As for gear dont be fooled into thinking you have to spend a fortune. My first rod was (still is) a Rex Hunt special my wife bought me in Kmart. It has caught fish, casts well and was just over $100. This where the club can be usefull also. If you can get to a casting clinic you might get the chance to use other peoples gear. Ask nicely most people are keen to help beginners, and using a range of gear will give you feel for what suits you best. Smile it makes people wonder what you are up to

Harro,
Take if from me mate, once you hook and land your first fish then you are hooked for life. Out of all forms of fishing, flyfishing is still number one for me. I can remember my first ever fish on fly and then my first of each new species......... And that's coming from someone who has a pretty poor memory. Currently hooked myself at the moment and can't wait for the pelagic season. Though I have found casting in a boat out on the open water in wind and heaps of crap at your feet so much harder then in the back yard...... you can't beat time on the water I guess!
