Anyone get out fishing off Cairns this week/weekend?

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has been able to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather and hit the reefs at all? Has anyone got any reports of whats biting etc?

I'm hoping for Saturday but have some work commitments. So it's a wait and see game for me.

Got out yesterday and caught a few trout. Dunno if anyone was left at work 'cause the boat ramp was as busy as a Sunday morning.

Went out Tuesday arvo,took my son who hasnt been fishing with me for about 7 years mainly due to his work commitments. He was 16 last time. Left Yorkeys to Batt Rf back to Pixie total of 1 Spaniard 750mm, bottom fishing dead. Wednesday left Cairns 10.30 to Sudbury 9Trout & 25lb spaniard.My contribution 1 Trout.He absolutley flogged me,top day.All caught in 13-16 mts

I went out on Friday night with not very good results. Got a mix of big mouth, red emperor, spangles and red throat. But the f*cking sharks gave us a touch up. Pulled up on dark and got 4 nice reds/big mouth around 15-20lb but then the sharks moved in and were eating the fish of the same size or bigger whole. Didn't have a chance - pull up 10 metres line would take off in another direction at 100mph and bitten off. They just went crazy, would hate to have fallen in.

Got a couple of trout and a mack the next day, but the sharks kept following us. Kept getting the heads and bitten off all the time. One shark to the mack rod, he was about 6-8foot long and he took some stopping. I was stuffed.

My brother went out friday and they picked up 35 reds/big mouth/spangles, so they were stoked.

good stuff mate, at least you got out and got a feed. iv been trying to get out but too much work to do, heres hoping for next time.

Yeah I think out of our trip off Deeral the final tally was 12 trout, a big gt and a barramundi cod (released). Dropped a nice spaniard at the end of the trip but thats fishin'. Flat seas, high visibility and a steady procession of trout to the esky.

Fresh back from 3 weeks in Europe........On my last post a few months back...was a fairly quiet night....mixed bag really.. Back in cairns now after 2 years in Port, looking to hit some of my old marks and got a few marks to try on the flat grounds in the deep. I dont really trout fish these days. Once youve had a taste of consistent nannies the fight of a trout gets to be no challenge. But if theres nothing else Biting ill hit the trout.......
