Paper Charts
Hi all, anyone have information where I can get a hold of large paper charts for around Mackay and Whitsundays and outer reefs as well, just a little something to hang on my office wall to plan those trips and maybe get a couple of tips when someone comes in, thanks all

RE: Paper Charts
I am not sure about Mackay and Whitsunday's but Absell's Chart and Map Centre in Cairns in my opinion are excellant. I have dealt with them over the last 15 years and catn fault them.

RE: Paper Charts
brosna, you should be able to get hold of your local charts from any chandlers, like Bias, Whitworths, your local marine dealers etc

RE: Paper Charts
I know my grandad has really good charts, I may be able to ask him if he can remember where he got them.

About $80 laminated for the charts either side of Bowen. Bought them about 2 months ago. Not sure if they will mail. Spoons Fishing is a passion - I'm just not very good at it |

RE: Paper Charts
I have had them posted out before in the cardboard post tubes from the post office. They can also be sent express like this as well.

RE: Paper Charts
speaking of which, given that we are all supposed to carry them on board in open waters, how does everyone store them on the boat so they stay protected from the elements and out of harm's way?
I have a piece of 40mm PVC pipe with a couple of end caps for mine, sits nice and safe under the front of the boat. One cap is glued on, the other I ran some gaffa tape around the end of the pipe to get a nice watertight fit in case for whatever reason they went overboard. Also put some of that shiny reflective tape down the length with some brighly cloured gaffa tape to make it stand out like the perverbial canine testicles |

RE: Paper Charts
Mine is laminated and stored up under the bunks at the bow. I still use it when looking for new territory as its easier to use than scrolling on your plotter.
