Quick trip to kalpower

Hey Guys

Did a quick trip to Kalpower last week after hearing the road to Bathurst Heads was open.

Got through Lakefield National Park no worries and got up to the marriot river to realise there was still plenty of water in the soaks around. After walking the soaks and looking for an alternative we decided to give them a hit as we had the winch to get through. We got through no worries to realise that we would be the first through for the year as a number of people had turned around at the second soak as it was pretty wet and muddy. The turbo just ate the soaks no worries.

We managed to get a nice boar walking stupidly on the road on the way in, so we gave him a touch up and continued on our way.

On the way in we noticed the warning lights on the dash of the cruiser on, but the old girl was running sweet so we kept going. Once we arrived we thought that the alternator may have got some water/dirty in it. After pulling the car apart to get at it (why to they make things so hard to get at) and pulling the back off the alternator we found the problem, cleaned it out and the cruiser was fine again.

We caught a variety of fish on slab baits, whole baits, hard body lures and poppers. The Barra were pretty thick as no one had been in yet and manage to score a few nice ones for the ice box. The majority were around the 650-750mm with the biggest going around 850mm. Blue salmon were also around. We found the fish went off the bite a bit the longer we were there.

On the last afternoon, when the fish was slow, I threw a popper on my rod and the fish came to life. I scored a nice queenie and a nice blue salmon and a few hits (but misses) from a few nice barra. It really got the fish going and my dad and brother caught some nice fish.

Overall it was a great few days off, nice to catch a few nice fish. Always a beautiful place. Also good to be there on our own as well.
